THIS DAY IN COUNTRY MUSIC: She Recorded One Of The "Greatest Love Songs Of All Time"

The Greatest Love Song Of All Time? Well, that is debatable but there is no denying that the song " I Will Always Love You" has endured the test of time. A song recorded on this day June 13th 1973 that Dolly Parton wrote as a farewell to her one-time partner and mentor Porter Wagoner following her decision to pursue a solo career. The tearful endearing song became an instant hit and went to #1 the following year (June 1974) But did you know Dolly took this song to #1 TWICE?!?!? The re-release in 1982 was included on the Soundtrack of the Movie version of "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas" which Dolly also starred in. Since then MANY artists have covered the song, the most notable and successful cover of course was Whitney Houston's version that too was a #1 hit in 1992 and featured on "The Bodyguard" Soundtrack. While rumors circulated that there was a feud between the two over the song, Dolly publicly "thanked Houston for bringing her song to a wider audience and increasing the amount of royalties for her song in the process" Dolly and even presented Whitney with the Record of the Year award at the 1994 Grammy Awards for her recording of her hit song!
