Today marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. Without question, one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, with estimated record sales of around 600 million units worldwide. After all this time, the allure of the "King Of Rock n Roll" is still VERY much alive! In what is known as "Elvis Week" commemerating the anniversary of his untimely death, fans from all over the world still flock to Memphis to pay homage to the late star of music and film.
I was 8 years old when the world was rocked by the shocking news that Elvis had died. A tragic moment that was etched in my memory as I recall the reaction to the tragedy from my older family members as if one of our own had died and in someways it was like we had lost a "family member!! Much like the assasination of JFK that was a major life changing time for our Country during my grandparents and parents, when Presley died masses of people worldwide mourned, responding with utter disbelief and shock!
