Bedtime Habits That Could Help You Lose That Unwanted Fat!

Many of us will try ANYTHING AT ANY COST to lose those extra pounds and unwanted fat. Um I know, been there done that BUT a study shows just doing a few things ( or NOT doing) before you turn it in and go to sleep that could actually help you burn fat while you sleep! Sounds too good to be true...nope, and it won't cost you a dime!

According to Women's Health Magazine  there are just 6 habits before bedtime you can learn and it WILL help you lose weight while you sleep. First before you do any of them, GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP! It is the easiest and most effective way to lose weight!!!  In one Annals of Internal Medicine study, "dieters who got 8.5 hours of sleep per night lost twice as much fat as those who scraped by on 5.5 hours—even though they all cut the same number of calories each day."

So now we know sleep IS important (yeah we kinda already knew that) but let's start with this...

Yes drinking milk before bedtime REALLY is a good thing...but not a milk fan? Greek Yogurt or even a protein smoothie will do! They will help you BUILD muscle while you sleep because it contains a slow-to-digest protein that keeps muscles fueled with amino acids!!! Aaaaaaannd building muscle is a GREAT way to increase your metabolic rate and burn more calories

Next.... I like this one because I LOVE sleeping in "frigid" conditions-just ask my husband! The colder the BETTER!!!

Turning down the thermostat before bedtime can help you fall asleep easier and STAY asleep. A research study published in Diabetes shows that when people sleep in rooms set to 66.2 degrees, they convert some of their calorie-storing white fat into calorie-burning brown fat.

Ok loved that one but the next one is even better!!! Not that I could ever do this but I will try....

Easier said than done RIGHT??? According to Rebecca Scott, a research assistant professor of neurology,  "Winding down before bed can seem like a waste of time when most of us are rushing to get everything done right up until we get in bed, but it's actually better to take the 30 minutes before hitting the hay for yourself—even if that means going to sleep a little later", she says.

So try something like reading or meditating, something you truly enjoy BUT try to avoid TV or your phone, tablet, or any electric gadgets because due to the light it prevents our brains from releasing melatonin, a hormone that tells our bodies it's nighttime.

Another tip is set the "RIGHT Mood Lighting"

Bright lights coming through your bedroom windows can cut down on your body’s production of melatonin therefore interfering with sleep quality so bright lighting in your bedroom is not a good idea before bed.

While exercise isn't recommended right before sleep since it will more than likely ENERGIZE you BUT light Bedtime Yoga could help the body relax.

And lastly which makes me sad because I enjoy winding down with a glass of wine from time to time before bed....

Research says “Alcohol consumed too close to bedtime can interfere with sleep quality in the second part of the night because metabolizing the sugar in alcoholic beverages doesn't let your body actually rest! This results in longer light sleep stages, decreased dream sleep, and more fragmented dream sleep and that is NOT good.

So there you have it! Easy peasy right?!?! Well I am definitely going to have to give it a try, after all what do I have to lose expect possibly the unwanted fat. Here's to a good night's sleep and losing weight!!
