Theirs was a love like no other, and one we aspire to have...when Johnny Cash met June Carter he knew from the very beginning that "they were meant to be together" and that he was so infatuated by June that he just let her “steal his heart.”. It took a little time to "win" her over however.. June met The Man In Black (before he was known as that) backstage at the Opry in 1956.(It is rumored that Elvis is "responsible" for bringing Johnny to June's attention before that chance meeting) Both were married to other people at the time but the attraction between the two was undeniable. It took 13 years of persistence but June answered one his MANY proposals over the years, finally, with a yes in 1968.

June said of Johnny “The love that John and I share with our love for Christ is one of the most precious gifts God could have given us,” Couldn't agree more. And apparently they had a love that one another couldn't live without. After June passed away in May of 2003, it was four months later when Cash died on Sept 12th. Although both are gone from this world, their epic love story lives on forever!
Below is a letter Cash wrote to his beloved June on her birthday in 1994 and has been named the "greatest love letter of all time"
