One of my favorite movies is the bio-pic "Selena" starring Jennifer Lopez. Although I was familiar with the name Selena and a few of her songs, I had NO idea the impact she had. An accomplished young lady who had done more in her short life than some do in lifetime! Singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress, and fashion designer Affectionately dubbed the "Queen of Tejano" Selena changed the world of Tejano music forever!!!
The scene in the movie where Lopez reenacts Selena's iconic performance at the Astrodome gave me chills and of course I cry everytime (now like 73 times I have watched the movie)
In reality it would be Selena's final performance.
24 years ago when Selena took the stage at the Astrodome (former home of RodeoHouston) it was her 3rd RodeoHouston appearance, who could have known then it would be her last!!! A life that was so full of potential, a shining star that went dim far too soon... On March 31st Yolanda Saldivar, Selena's fan club president, shot the star to death in Corpus Christi. Selena was just 23 years old.
