Miranda Lambert shared how her husband, a former New York City police officer, has remained by her side as she embraces the cowgirl lifestyle.

The most-winning artist in Academy of Country Music history said Brendan McLoughlin “is so supportive. I’m so lucky to have him as my husband.” Lambert spoke about her husband during a recent conversation with COWGIRL Magazine for the publication’s November/December cover issue. The interview published online on Monday (October 13). She also detailed her decades as a country megastar, her star-studded collaborations (including with Chris Stapleton, Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson, Parker McCollum and Ella Langley, COWGIRL notes), the importance of supporting women in country music, her personal Postcards from Texas record and more.

Lambert and McLoughlin met in November 2018 on the set of Good Morning America. Lambert was on the show with Pistol Annies, and McLoughlin was working as a security officer. The Texas-born superstar's bandmates invited McLoughlin to their show, where he and Lambert could spend more time with one another. They got married in a surprise intimate wedding just a few months later, in January 2019, at a farm outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

“He’s from New York City, so this whole world is totally different to him, but he came straight into it,” Lambert said of McLoughlin supporting the country star’s best cowgirl life, particularly in the past year. “We’re almost at seven years of marriage now. I have a stepson, and we spend a lot of time in New York with him. But the beauty of it all is that Brendan’s a retired NYPD officer.

“I come from a long line of first responders. I’ve got a bunch of firemen and cops in my family, and my dad was a police officer in Dallas. We’re kindred spirits, even though we’re from different parts of the country. I feel like I have such a strong support system with him, and he also tells me the truth,” she continued with COWGIRL. “You know, it’s like having somebody at home who can bring you back to earth and really tell it to you straight, even if it’s sometimes hard to hear. I’m so thankful that he’s willing to come on this journey with me, and this adventure, but also be a grounding spot and a home for me.”
