Jelly Roll Emotionally Shares Life Update, Breaks 'Generational Curse'

Jelly Roll got emotional as he opened up about how he broke “a generational curse” in a video he posted on a day off from his ongoing headlining tour.

The award-winning artist grew up in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. Jelly Roll said his father and his uncle “couldn’t have been two different humans as far as their just whole approach to life. We had a little house in Antioch, and my uncle, he had a nice, big old farm.” Jelly Roll said he spent a lot of time with his family at that farm, which his uncle still owns. One day, around 12 years old, Jelly Roll remembered asking his father, “’how come we never got a farm?’ He said, ‘son, that’s probably one of the mistakes I regret the most, is that I didn’t buy dirt. He said they’re never gonna make no more of it, (and) if you don’t listen to no advice from me, buy dirt. Go get you some land.’

“Y’all know the story. My father passed away. We were really close, and anyway, today I had an off day between St. Louis and Knoxville, and I came home for the first time in a long time,” Jelly Roll said, going on to pause the video as he got emotional. “While I was gone, my wife [Bunnie Xo] and I — ah, I’m gonna get emotional. I’m not gonna cry, so I’ll stop here. I’ll just start over. …My wife and I, we purchased over 500 acres. and we closed on it while we were gone, and I have not been able to come to this land since we owned it, y’all. This is my first time standing on this property as the owner of it. I gotta stop again. I’m so sorry. f***. …I’m here, and I came here today to pray over it. I came here today to vision cast in it. I came here today to just walk barefooted in it. And most of all, I came here today to pull this phone out of my pocket and look y’all in the eyes and say thank you, man. I never would’ve dreamed that this could’ve been anything about my story. This is not what I expected. …I was never brave enough to dream that I would be here like this today. Thank y’all for the success of Beautifully Broken. Thank y’all for just changing my life, man. Generational curses were broke because of y’all. I’m standing on it. I’m standing here breaking a generational curse right now, and I hope that inspires one of y’all to do the same thing.”
