(Austin, TX) -- Governor Greg Abbott is giving an ultimatum to Democrats in the Texas House who left the state to prevent a vote on a redistricting plan. A number of Democrats fled to Illinois to stop today's vote on a new map that would add five new Republican districts before next year's midterm elections. Former Speaker of the Houst Dade Phelan, of Beaumont, who represents District 21 in the House, told KLVI he wants to better understand the situation and will give us a comment sometime today. Democrats claim the maps would suppress the votes of people of color.Abbott says the runaway Democrats have until 3 p.m. today to be back on the job, or else he'll take steps to remove them from membership in the Texas House.
