Oldest Dog Living Breaks Guinness World Record

The show shared a story about a Guinness World Record being broken by the oldest living dog ever, Bobi. Two weeks ago, they announced that a 23-year-old Chihuahua named Spike was the oldest living dog, until they received evidence of an even older dog named Bobi who is 30 years old! He’s not just the oldest dog living; he’s the oldest dog ever.

Bobi was born in May of 1992 and has lived his whole life in the rural village of Conqueiros, in Leiria, Portugal with the Costa family. He is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, which is a breed of livestock guardian dog with an average life expectancy of 12-14 years.

In his old age, walking has become difficult for him, so he mostly spends his time hanging out in the backyard of his owner’s property. His eyesight has worsened as well. As for his diet, he’s always eaten human food. His owner said whatever they ate, he ate too. He believes that contributed to Bobi’s longevity.

Bobi broke the record from the last oldest dog ever was held by a dog named Bluey who was 29 years old when he died in 1939.

Bobi is looking forward to his 31st birthday in May!
